How to Color Block

“I like light, color, and luminosity. I like things full of color and vibrant.” - Oscar de la Renta

Absolutely! Bring on all of the colors! I dream, shop, and live in color! When I shop in a physical store, I look for bright colors that easily stand out to me. It makes my shopping trips much easier that way. If I am online shopping, the same thing applies….I am likely to buy more than usual because I am enamored by color and can’t resist.

My love for color easily leads me to color blocking because I can literally spin the color wheel and put the boldest and brightest outfits together. Color blocking is taking colors on opposite sides of the color wheel to make complementary color combinations. I may be bias but you can never have too much color!

As usual, I pulled pieces from my closet and created outfits for my color blocking theme. I decided to use my mustard pants as the main piece for my outfit, two blouses (one orange and one green), and two pairs of shoes (fuschia and red). Thanks to Pinterest, I had several ideas for my mustard pants and my creativity launched into fruition in a matter of minutes. Remember, creativity doesn’t have to cost you anything if you use what you have!

Outfit #1: Green blouse with mustard pants and red mules

I call this outfit the “Traffic Light” and the color scheme wasn’t intentional for this to happen lol.

Outfit #2: Green blouse with mustard pants and fuschia pumps

The fuchsia pumps are a form of color pop to the green and yellow hues.

Outfit #3: Orange blouse with mustard pants and red mules

This outfit reminds of the colors of the sunset and gives me warm vibes.

Outfit #4: Orange blouse with mustard pants and fuschia pumps

The fuschia pumps are considered as a color pop to the orange and mustard pieces since it is outside of their color family.

Color blocking gives you an opportunity to fully indulge yourself in experimenting with color. It is a complete artistic expression that you can twist and turn to your liking. Remember to have fun with your colors!
